Remarks:

Thankfully, today's cars are nowhere near as prone to repairs as they were 50 years ago. I can still remember that the engine of a VW Beetle had to be changed regularly at +/- 45,000 km, which was partly due to the inadequate air cooling and the poor lubrication of the 4th cylinder. A used replacement engine was more or less on every corner for around 150 DM. The engine removal and installation itself was not a major problem. Everything about the cars of that time was controlled mechanically and could be repaired yourself with standard tools. That sees today  completely different. Many functions are controlled electronically, repairs are sometimes only possible with special tools, the job description of a car mechanic has evolved into a mechatronics technician. An extremely difficult and demanding field of activity for hobby screwdrivers. Still, there are many things that you can do yourself. Prerequisites are manual skills, sensible tools, a suitable place, if possible in a garage, and if necessary or regular repair instructions. In the links below you will find the latter and good advice.

Please bear in mind that improperly carried out car repairs can be life-threatening for others and for yourself. If you have any doubts about your abilities, please stay away from it. There are enough professionals.
