Selling a car at a good price is a little trickier. In the following links you will find helpful information and tips, also on the sales strategy. Basically, you proceed in 5 steps: 1. Determine the sales price, 2. Prepare the vehicle for sale, 3. Properly offer it for sale, 4. Conduct sales negotiations and 5. Sell it in a legally secure manner. In detail:
Determine the sales price - for older vehicles, an online search in various sources (see the page: car evaluation) and in the major online car markets is sufficient. This gives you a quick overview of the sales offer prices for comparable cars. You should take existing deficiencies into account when determining the price. In the case of newer, more valuable vehicles, it is advisable to obtain a valuation report (see the page: car valuation), which can also serve as the basis for sales negotiations.
Preparing the vehicle ready for sale - thorough exterior and interior cleaning is a matter of course. Repairing dents and paint damage is hardly feasible for a layperson. This is where the professional (dent doctor) has to deal if the result is to lead to an increase in the purchase price. A new general inspection (TÜV, AU) almost always pays off. That is, in order to achieve a good sales price, you inevitably have to invest time and money in the vehicle to be sold.
Properly offering the vehicle - regardless of whether you offer your vehicle in online car markets or in the press, you should always truthfully communicate all value-creating factors that are decisive for a buyer and not hide known defects and previous damage. They are also not allowed to advertise any properties of the vehicle that are not available. Otherwise, you face the risk of recourse claims and criminal charges for fraud, even with a contractually agreed exclusion of warranty.
Conducting sales negotiations well is not for everyone. Here, too, it is important to show perseverance and not to sell below price to the first person to come. If bargaining is not in your blood, you may know someone from your social circle who is "biased" and who takes over or at least supports the negotiations.
Selling legally secure - principle: No car sale without a purchase contract! As a private person (consumer) you can use the warranty or Contractually exclude liability for material defects. Then do that too, but please do it correctly. You can find a large number of relevant contract models online. You must read through these pre-formulated contracts sentence by sentence. Cross out what you do not want and fill in the necessary data. As a seller, it is advisable to fill out the contract carefully beforehand, as far as possible. You can then choose the buyer and the purchase price register later. Take your time drafting the contract and work carefully.
As I said before, if you want to get a good selling price, you need to invest time and money. For many, this procedure is too complex and time-consuming. When buying a new car or a high-priced used car, it is regularly advisable to trade in the old vehicle. Others turn to professional buyers, even if the selling price is lower.
